100 Hours of Humo(u)r – Hour 99: Wow…
By Dave Fox
It’s been a weird 100 hours, and nothing like what I expected. I’m not sure what I expected but this wasn’t it. It’s been grueling. It’s been exciting. It’s been depressing. It’s been hilarious. It’s been, in ways I am still processing, a bigger learning experience than I expected.
On an average week, I shoot for three new articles on my website. I have just posted eight months of material in four days and shattered all previous records on my site for number of unique visitors in a single day.
And man, have there been some unique ones.
My original idea was to try to replicate the Globejotting Happy Hours I hosted around the United States two months ago. That didn’t quite happen for a couple of reasons: I was at times far too busy or exhausted to connect with many of you, and also, I figured out quickly that happy-hour-style alcohol intake was not going to be possible if I intended to stay awake and write non-embarrassing, quasi-coherent blog material.
One big hope I had was to create a lot of fresh humor material “live” for my blog posts. I think I only covered maybe 10 to 20 percent of the ideas on my list. Writing quality humor demands far more brain power than I had.
That said, I am extremely grateful to all of you who contributed to the posts — either by sending in stories for the contests or by just sending in stories. There are a lot of other people I need to thank, without whom this wouldn’t have happened. I’m not going to try to do that right now because I am tired and will forget people. And… the treadmill has not come to a complete stop yet. This is my 99th post. I’ve got 88 minutes to get this online and wrap up my hundredth one by the 100-hour deadline.
So I’m going to wrap this up and move on to post 100 — which like post number one is going to be a video.
One final announcement before I go though to those of you who have signed up for my humor writing course: You should have received lesson one by now. If you have not, please let me know. I had hoped to get people registered in the Globejotters’ Lounge as things progressed but the sheer craziness of keeping up with that has made that impossible. But it’s the first thing i will do when I’m up tomorrow. Then I’m going to take the rest of the day off. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. What I often like to do on my days off is write, but I don’t think that’s happening tomorrow.
Okay… delirium is sinking in. It’s time to wrap up post 99 and make my Post #100 video. Stay tuned.
And whatever your sick and twisted motives were for following this freak show, thanks for keeping me company.
Hugs from Singapore,
