airplane over Mount Rainier

Not a bad view of Mount Rainier on my flight from Seattle to Denver yesterday. Next stop: Salt Lake City, Utah!

I’m on a quick trip to the United States right now – headed to Salt Lake City, where I’ll be giving a series of free talks and workshops on travel and writing next week. If you’re in the area, I’d love to see you. Come say hi!

If you can’t come to Salt Lake City, we are hoping to post video from some of the events on YouTube after they are finished. If technology cooperates, we might also stream some events on Facebook Live as they happen. To be notified in advance of the live streams (if they happen), you can follow Globejotting on Facebook.

Here’s the schedule. (All times are Mountain Standard Time. If you’re looking for the video streams, the times will be different if you’re in a different time zone.) …

Wednesday, February 22

(This is the only event with an age restriction. All other talks are open to everybody. The material at this presentation will be similar to my Saturday keynote at the Go Learn Travel Expo.)

Travel and the Art of Storyfinding – MUSE Lunchtime Lecture

When: Thursday, February 23 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
Where: University of Utah – Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building (CTIHB) Room 109

Globejotting: How to Write the Stories of Your Journeys – MUSE Writing Workshop
Learn how to write scintillating travel tales! I’ll teach you how to write travel journals that capture the full spirit of your adventures, and how to then transform your personal diaries into stories readers will love. Regardless of your literary goals or current skill level, you’ll learn how to write in ways that enhance your journeys instead of gobbling up precious time, and discover how writing can make you a more observant and immersed traveler.

Where: University of Utah – LNCO Room 2110

Go Learn Travel Expo – Keynote Address and Travel Journaling Workshops
I’ll be the keynote speaker at the University of Utah’s annual Go Learn Travel Expo. The topic of my talk will be “The Joy of Culture Shock.” Afterward, I’ll teach two 30-minute sessions on travel journaling. A travel photographer will be on hand to teach about iPhone photography, and you can learn about the university’s various travel programs. They’ll also have a raffle at the end of the day!
