Globejotting Happy Hour in Seattle for Writers & Travelers: January 5

By Dave Fox

Globejotting mascot Sven Wondermoose will be joining us at all four gatherings to pose for photos and down a few shots.

I live in Singapore but I’ll be heading to Seattle for the winter holidays — and I would love to hang out with you!

Join me for a happy hour on Sunday, January 5, 2014, from 6 to 9 p.m.! We’ll meet at the Naked City Brewery in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Meet other writers and travel enthusiasts, and bask in the glow of one of Seattle’s most diverse and exciting beer selections! They also serve tasty food. You’re welcome to join me for dinner, or just come for a beverage. (And if you’re under 21, no problem! They are licensed as a restaurant, so you’re allowed inside.)

This is a free (and gigglishly casual) event! All you pay for is whatever you choose to eat and drink.

(I will also be teaching a travel writing class on Tuesday, January 7.)

If you would like to join us for the happy hour, you can just show up; however, a quick RSVP would be appreciated, as I need to give the brewers a rough head count. So… if you’ll be attending (or are thinking about it), please e-mail me. (For the Tuesday night class, space is limited and advance registration is required. Sign up here.)

I hosted several of these events when I was in the States last winter and they were an utter blast! (A couple of people even flew in from other cities to attend!) Come talk travel and/or writing, have a beer with me and Sven Wondermoose, and get 2014 off to a rollicking good start!

Details
When: Sunday, January 5, 2014 — 6 to 9 p.m.

Where: Naked City Brewery & Taphouse, 8564 Greenwood Avenue N. (On the #5 and 64 bus lines.)

How to Find Us
Look for a really short guy with a shaved head and glasses, or Globejotting mascot Sven Wondermoose. Ladies, be forewarned: Svenny gets a little flirtatious at times, but really, he’s harmless.

Dave and Sven share a quick beer on the night train from Bangkok, Thailand, to Vientiane, Laos.

“But wait! Dave Fox? Who are you and what is this all about?”
Oh… pardon me. For those of you who have never heard of me or Globejotting, and have found this page via Craigslist, Twitter, or some other wacky Internet glitch, I’m a travel and humor writer and writing coach. I’m also the founder  of Globejotting.com, a website that features travel tales, humor columns, and writing tips, and I’ve written two books: Globejotting: How to Write Extraordinary Travel Journals and Getting Lost: Mishaps of an Accidental Nomad. I teach online writing classes and offer personalized writer coaching. I’ve taught Kalahari Bushmen how to play Frisbee. Beer makes me smile.

I live in Singapore but was based in Seattle for 16 years (guiding Rick Steves’ tours in Europe for several months each year) until 2011.

“Cool! So how do I sign up?”
Again, if you’d drop me a quick e-mail to let me know you’ll be joining us, I’d appreciate it, so I can let the bar know roughly how many people to expect. However, if you stumble onto this page at the last minute and don’t have time to RSVP, you are still welcome to crash our party!

“Will you be scheduling any more of these gatherings elsewhere?”
Hopefully! I always enjoy connecting with my readers and other like-minded people. I co-organized a couple of events last year in Singapore, and I also hosted happy hours in Denver, Maryland, and San Francisco. If you can’t make it to Seattle, let me know where you live or where you’d like to attend a Globejotting event. If I know I have a big enough audience in a particular spot, I’ll keep you high on my list of possibilities for future meet-ups.

“Will you be available for one-on-one writer coaching or travel consulting while you’re in Seattle?”
Yes! I’ll be in town from December 21 through January 10. I’ll be spending much of that time with family but will have a few coaching slots open. If you’re interested, check out my Writing Coach page.

So I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, January 5, for the happy hour, and Tuesday, January 7, for the travel writing class!
