New Online Masterclass: Learn How to Write Hilarious Travel Tales!

This six-week course on Zoom begins the first week in May ~ Tuesday evenings in the Americas, Wednesdays elsewhere on Planet Earth.

A monkey in Sri Lanka catches an electric buzz. (Don’t worry. The current was low. he seemed to be enjoying himself.)

Travel humorists don’t dream of smooth journeys. When chaos strikes, our funniest stories are born.

What should you do when you’re charged by drunken rodents, poisoned while kissing your significant other, or confronted by wildebeest who act all macho but snort like Muppets who have lasagna lodged in their throats? Write!

Hi! I’m Dave Fox, and all of the above scenarios have happened to me in my travels. I’ve been teaching travel and humor writing workshops for a couple of decades, and I’m excited to launch a new, live, six-week masterclass that squishes the two styles together.

You’ll discover why travel and humor make for a perfect marriage of genres. You’ll learn how to spin your craziest mishaps into hilarious travel tales, and hone those tales for maximum laughs.

This workshop includes:

  • Six 90-minute classes, live on Zoom. Recordings of each class will be available if you miss one.
  • Three detailed, professional-quality story critiques. These critiques will be structured so they don’t just improve the stories at hand; they will also strengthen your overall travel and humor writing skills.
  • A small group of four to six students maximum to ensure you get plenty of personal attention.

Topics we’ll cover include:

  • How to write enticing travel tales.
  • Key elements of comedy: How to make things funny, and how to make funny things even funnier.
  • Which comedic techniques work best in travel humor.
  • Learning from master travel humorists.
  • How to laugh about foreign cultures and situations without sounding like you’re attacking the culture.
  • Editing your work for maximum laughs and readability.
  • Peer critiquing in ways that will improve your own writing as well as theirs.
  • How and where to sell and publish your travel humor.

Our six, weekly lessons will happen at the following times:
