We waited ten years for this?

Voss, Norway

I’m wandering the streets of this mid-sized Norwegian town at lunch time. I am relieved to discover the United States is not the only country with shameless merchandising practices. I spot a T-shirt heralding the importance of 2004. This year is the 10th anniversary of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.

Never mind that Voss is nowhere near Lillehammer, or that nobody cares about the tenth anniversary of an event that happens every four years. If you silkscreen it, they will come.

What this shirt really seems to say is, “I missed the Lillehammer Olympics. I should have gone to Athens this year.”
